The first Alternative Miss Cork took place in 2002, inspired by the success of Alternative Miss Limerick. It has now become an annual event.

Cork Women’s Fun Weekend
May
The long-running Fun Weekend has become something of an institution. Held on the May Bank Holiday Weekend, events include discos, cabarets, workshops, stalls and pub quizzes as well as outings and sport events.
Pride
June
Cork’s annual Pride celebrations take place over the June Bank Holiday Weekend. Long-standing events include a pride parade, sports day, barbecue in Loafers and the Party in the Park.

Outlook—Lesbian and Gay Film Festival
October
Part of the Murphy’s Cork Film Festival, Outlook is a showcase for Irish, European and international gay film. As with the general festival, short films are given pride of place, but there’s always a healthy range of features and documentaries also. Participating venues include the Kino (Washington St), the Triskel (Tobin St) and the Opera House (Emmet Place).
Lesbian Fantasy Ball
November
This annual party has become a highlight of the lesbian calendar in Cork. Each year a theme is proposed; as ever, some take it more seriously than others.
